It is TIME to give back!

When I started working within Finance the “you are as successful as your watch” mentality was a big factor — and probably still is. This meant that since a man can only wear their wedding ring and/or a watch as jewelry, the watch became the main focus as a symbol of status. I saved up …

Staying Alert in Texas

Firstly, we have to apologize for not blogging for a good 3 weeks. After experiencing the calm and simple life in Belize, Texas feels like a whirlwind that has swept us away.    Olivia joined the swim team, which practices everyday Monday to Friday and upcoming competitions on Saturdays. On top of this, Olivia and …

Swedish castaway

Having this alternative lifestyle does not only broaden myself, it also teaches me what I respect and even cherish about my own background. For instance, we started noticing that something was off here and neither Melissa nor I could lose the sense that someone or something wanted us to fail. Really weird things started to …

Making toys in Vanuatu

After a poor nights sleep we set foot at Port Vila on Efate, our first stop of two in the country Vanuatu. The sun was already warm and we were welcomed by aggressive taxi drivers. Melissa had prebooked a tour to see some island history and the Mele Cascades (waterfalls). At our first stop we …

Cutting costs

A top question we are asked (second to how to “follow” the blog) is how we can afford this lifestyle? (To follow the blog you need to enter it on a computer, not a mobile phone, and press +follow. Just fill in your email address etc., confirm the address and there you go.) Well, it …

Top ten at the gym

We boarded the ship in Auckland that will be our home for 4 weeks. When standing in line to board the ship I quickly realized that the average passenger age is probably around 70. Since I now always try to think positive, I told Melissa this means I will at least be among the top ten fittest at the gym. Its a nice feeling realy that I have not experienced since my low 20’s. Because of this new increased sense of self-importance I decided to start a workout program called Freeletics. It’s basically 4 times a week and you try to do it as fast as possible. Today, the day after my first encounter with freeletics, I cannot literally lift my arms and next time time at the gym will be a struggle to remain at the top since there are many 65 year olds that would love to be the cause of my fall…
The ship is great and we are very pleased that they do have healthy alternatives when it comes to food. First stop at mount Maunganui provided perfect weather and a great playground for the kids.

Bucket list

Life could be described as a journey of impressions which we try to interpret. Some find safety in familiar patterns while others feel the need to drastically redefine their surroundings. Either way, new experiences are important since they can either strengthen or revaluate someones perspective. I beleive it is sane not to ask yourself what you want out of life …

If there is a will, there is a way

Packing and moving… Emptying a household is not easy or fun. The amount of planning needed to split a household in 3 is way over my capacity so naturally, Melissa stepped in. And she pulled it off…! Some things went easier than expected and other things harder, but we always found a way. Since the …

Does this mean home schooling?

Hmm, Homeschooling. Sounds like an effort. Is that really for us? Well we started to research and found that there are far more options than the traditional house-wife homeschooling. These are some examples: CLASSICAL – Concrete, analytical, and abstract thinking CHARLOTTE MASON – Religious-based UNIT STUDIES – Takes a specific area of interest and uses …
