Bucket list

Life could be described as a journey of impressions which we try to interpret. Some find safety in familiar patterns while others feel the need to drastically redefine their surroundings. Either way, new experiences are important since they can either strengthen or revaluate someones perspective. I beleive it is sane not to ask yourself what you want out of life …

Miami Vice weekend

We are celebrating a kid-free weekend, driving a 1996 Merc, i.e. Miami Vice style, to New Orleans for a dear friend’s wedding. We have been looking forward to this trip for almost a year. Last night we stayed in Lafayette and couldn’t help but join an airboat swamp tour while in the Swamp State of …

If there is a will, there is a way

Packing and moving… Emptying a household is not easy or fun. The amount of planning needed to split a household in 3 is way over my capacity so naturally, Melissa stepped in. And she pulled it off…! Some things went easier than expected and other things harder, but we always found a way. Since the …

Breaking free from fear of failure

– “I admire that you have the guts to do this because I don’t”, a friend of mine recently said. Well, this was never a decision without fear or worries. But, when we tried to come up with our worst case scenario then the worst we could imagine was that we would want to return …

Does this mean home schooling?

Hmm, Homeschooling. Sounds like an effort. Is that really for us? Well we started to research and found that there are far more options than the traditional house-wife homeschooling. Are we sane?

After making the decision to become residents of Belize, rather than the awesome Austin, TX, our rational minds kicked in and starting asking why. Why do we feel this plan would make us “happier”? Are we the only ones that want OUT of the rat race so bad?.. with small children nevertheless. Are we good …

Finding Hummingbird Haven

After numerous hours spent researching the internet for where in Belize we wanted to settle down, a few options stood out. We decided that we did want something that had a business element and that we did not want to spend the time building one from scratch — which indicated that we had to try …

Narrowing it down

Why Belize?

Well, the criteria for our chosen tropical paradise had to fit a variety of parameters. Costa Rica was a top pick but unless you were retired, acquiring residency was quite costly. Panama was a great option too but it was farthest away of all Central American countries. Belize had a lot of pros and cons but we ultimately decided it was best due to its proximity, official language being English and the vast amount of un-used resources. It is truly pristine. Ironically, when Magnus and I visited Belize nine years ago, we even said that we saw ourselves living here in the future.

Most expats live near the ocean on white sandy beaches with crystal clear waters but we are going a bit more local… 30 min south of Belmopan, right next to the Blue Hole National Park. Fortunately, we are only 45 min from the beach… in case we get bored.

The plan takes form

A little lady from Texas and a guy from Sweden. Both with childhood dreams to live in the rainforest. Married despite the odds and with families on either side of the ocean. Adding to equation, 2 bilingual children losing out on their culture and language when living in one country at a time. Sweden was …
